Online ads are a farce

According to a new report, 46% of web advertising traffic is "suspicious," which is a nice way of saying "fraudulent." If 46% of web advertising viewership is fraudulent, that means companies have wasted $9.5 billion so far in 2013.

Now it has taken a new form. Not only are marketers ignoring the awful truth about the ineffectiveness of online advertising, they are turning a blind eye to the fact that they are being skinned alive by crooks and their willfully corrupt accomplices in the ad world.

Ads have their place in the online world, but the eagerness of the business world to replicate their outdated analog strategies as digital strategies has only served to waste money and annoy customers. Of course the alternative — attracting customers by creating valuable content — is more difficult and requires creativity and effort, so yeah.
